hey guys, please be kind to a newbie, I've tried to do some reading on this but most posts seem to be directed at freeview boxes. Oh, and although some of the jargon may be different I am experienced in programming cards for cable boxes so I have some gear such as the infinity programmer.
I just bought a samsung le series hdtv which has freeview built in and a "common interface". What do I need to do to go about obtaining channels on this device? The manual mentions ci cards, are these similar to mosc cards and funcards? if so can I program my own card and be off? Some posts have mentioned cams, what is a cam? is it an adapter for cards or a program? The tv isn't showing the common interface and a useable slot at the moment, I am guessing because the ci card isn't inserted. If anyone can help me and shed some light on this i would be sooo grateful. Oh, and if I can program my own card, where can I obtain the flash files etc? Thanks guys |

Hi
My tv has a cam slot. You will find out its for tits up tv or setanta.Such places as currys do the cam.I have put my diablo in and it will recognise it.I purchased one with a cam because from what I have read when freeview goes hd the tuners round at the moment will not handle it but there is a device available to go in the cam slot to enable hd.I very rarely use the freeview tuner in the tv as I find it more likely to go off with a dip in signal than a seperate box. |

As above but you can also buy tv's with freesat tuners in them. Then a Diablo will work. I have read of people tuning into thor and clear lots of channels.

You could still use a seperate cable decoder, depending on what results you want, and what approaches you are willing to take, depends on which box to get. Either a 3rd party decoder, or a ex-subbed virmin box, you could also get a dvb-c card for your pc, which will decode cable, using the correct codecs.

I do find it highly unlikely though, as i mentioned, freeview tuners are DVB-T, which as mentioned is a terrestrial tuner, which will not decode satalite (DVB-S) or cable (DVB-C). So, in my honest opnion, no.
