Default What card What viewer What os

Thought I’d just post this as a guide to anyone thinking of installing a DVB-S pci card, there are a lot of pit falls, and I can’t OVER STATE read as much as you can
I brought a Technisat Skystar HD 2
I checked my pc to see it came up to the requirements; in fact it was over specked..... Except it ran Windows Vista Ultimate SP 1
the card would not install , I kept getting " PCI IRQ Routing ERROR A8.17.03 2048 mb "then at the bottom of the screen " Not Enough Space To Copy PCI Option ROM " there is a regedit work round for this on Windows support pages and after that it can be ignored ( if you like that sort of thing )
now the problem seems to be that 16 bit cards won’t run on some mother boards
I found the support from Technisat ( words have just failed me ) CRAP
I honestly think there’s a langue problem! and they had never heard nor cared about my errors
In the end they advised me to send it back as faulty to the vendor again foreign in Italy I’ve still to get a reply from them 
The DVB-TE that comes with the CD is to say the least basic (worthless would be a better description)
so have a good look round to see on the forums etc regarding back up and advice , the Technisat main one is in German so either brush up or forget it, it goes the same for the DVBViewer Pro which I brought and tried and binned
I tried a lot and found the best was the free DVBDream
Yes I did eventually get it going but on my old pc which as a good spec and runs Windows XP Pro but is not now mine, it’s the ex’s and as to go back soon, so a card will be for sale
So to sum up
Check your PC’s speck (watch out for the chipsets) read all you can, visit ALL the forums there’s some good posts on this one
READ READ and then READ again
