Default Virgin attacks non-official modems

Is it true, or as always? Lincsat recommends not buying a patched modem unless somebody knows what he is doing. What does he means, that is not safe and get caught?
Imported Ambit and Motorola modems are safer, or it doesn't matter at all?

Thanks in advance

Wrong. You have to be careful with what you do. I dont think different makes of modems matter cos they used to supply motorola and webstar modems.
Just dont draw attention to your self like with downloading so much and going on websites you shouldnt. Also change your NIC Mac when it comes to changing your Modem MAC.

think thats the reason people could get caught is greed and stupidity. Keep things on the low and dont go boasting to friends. Be happy with what you youve got and dont take more than you need.

Well, as someone who has been "raided" by the police...

I have never sold dodgy modems. I did, however, reflash modems for friends - never for profit. Probably did around 15 modems in the last year.

In January there was a knock at the door. The Police were there, with a search warant. Apparantly I'd been reported for aiding and abetting in stealing cable services. During the search, they found two modems - both were completely original, with the standard Virgin software on it. They ignored the eurovox box and my own reflashed 250.

In the end, it came to nothing and I was never charged with anything. But it does lead me to think the only people who ever get arrested are people who are grassed up. By co-incidence, I'd just dumped my business partner who I'd discovered was skimming a substantial amount from our business.

Mick.

I think what lincsat means by the link is that modems are liable to go off , especially at the moment, you have to know what you are doing with them, not quite as easy as a cable box, you are always going to be updating firmware and macs, unless your very lucky, at the moment nobody seems to know for sure whats happening.
