First, you should really have read the forum rules, and a post in the 'Introductions thread' would have helped you somewhat.

Anyway, your question is unfortunately a little vague, you say virmin modem, but what modem?

Model? Manufacturer?

Each modem has slightly different procedures for flashing, some easy, some not.

Most flashing can be done by the com port using a max232 adapter and serial cable, these can be found on ebay for £10, and often come with the cable pre-made for the modem you are going to flash. (obviously, you must state which cable you want during payment)

Have a read of the haynes cable guide, available in the downloads area, its got a large majority of information, and should help you to understand a bit more about what you are asking.

Also, read the cable modem forum! Even if the posts are old, trust me, doing this will provide you will all and any info you will ever need - I know everything I do, because I have read what senior members have said, their posts and tutorials, even down to random posts, all helped me in at least some way, even if only passing the time.

The webstar 2100r2 is also very easy, max232 cable/adapter is too all you would require.
