Well done,Rich.
Now we know, who to badger with our IT problems.
I got as far as you, last summer, and got no further,so can't really offer any great practical help.
From my numerous readings,I do know is
1.Make sure that your mount is plumb, otherwise everything will go pear shaped.
2.Make sure that the lnb has no skew,i.e is vertical.
3.Make sure that your dish angle is correct(check the motor's manual for the chart) or check this guide:Techwatch: Satellite TV forums, FTA, Cable, Hardware, & Tech forums
4.If using USALS,make sure you've entered your latitude/longitude correctly.
This is the part, where I fully didn't comprehend, was that once the dish has been sent to 1W,is that your have to "wiggle waggle",(upwards/sideways),the dish until you get the maximum signal quality, and to ensure that the arc is tracked correctly.

I'm going to have another crack at getting it right tomorrow... after the F1 has finished !!

I'm getting a little annoyed about the LAT / Long side of things, as I have checked 5 different sites, and only 3 of them are the same.. grrrr

Anyway, I'll do some more reading in the morning and try again ! More as it happens.

If you set it to magnetic south then would it be out by 3 degrees or so?
I don't know if sats are aligned to True or magnetic south but it's worth thinking about

Something I have just noticed myself.... there is true and magnetic south. I will have set it as magnetic via my compass (I can't believe I still have it.. yet another story).

So, I plan on pointing at Thor @ 0.8w (I think) then start moving the whole lot around to see what I get.

Question Re: Disk installations

I've been up my ladders since 8am (keen aren't I) and I have got nothing, zero bub kiss !!

What the heck am I doing wrong I keep asking myself... Would somebody kindly check what I done so far...

So...
Lat - 53.319
Long - -1.5

I've entered into USLS, 53.3 N and 1.5 W as my location onto my TM6900.

As I'm running a motor (TM 2200) I have got the motor angle set to 37 degrees and the disk set at 22 degress.

I am getting 1% signal... no matter what I move / reposition I don't get any more !!

Any idea's or thoughts ???

Is your motor stub set to zero?
Your figures are more or less correct, just try increasing the dish elevation to 22.5 degrees(30-7.5(declination angle)=22.5)
Once you've set it to 1 west, are you moving the the dish and motor,on the mount to get the maximum signal quality?

The motor is set to 0 and the dish in inclined as stated. I have progressed a little further not since my post of this morning.

I can now get Thor and Astra 19E I believe, but most of the other Sats don't get a good signal. I'm still working on it, but am not getting much further at the moment !!
