Default Hate to ask for help but here goes.

Hi all,

I hate asking for help, but i really am stuck this time.

I have just flashed my first modem it's an N*L 250 with infinite ( with not too many issues ) i got online once but then messed with configs and never worked after that so then i upgraded it with Haxorware 1.1 Rev31.

Here's what i have done,

Scanned for some macs using my subbed modem, with DHCP Sniffer. ( I have a feeling this was a little silly, is it? )

Are these macs any good to me? Or will they be my ubr? In which case i think not.

I then used these settings,

Configuration:
---------------------
Settings-

General:

Factory Mode - Unticked
Disable Firmware Upgrades - Ticked
Force Network Access - Ticked
Tftp Enforce Bypass - Ticked
Disable IP Filters on Startup - Unticked
Current IP Filters Status - Optimized
Press Save

Administration:

Control Panel IP Address - 192.168.100.1
DHCP Server - Ticked
Telnet Server - Unticked
Username - Root
Password - Admin
Press Save

Frequency Settings:

Annex - Both
Plan - European
Preferred DS Freq 1 - 402750000 (this is for NTL, TW is 331000000 and others are different)
2 and 3 - 0
Here i used my Freq which is 5xxxx for ex c&w
Upstream channel - dont change (will change on its own)
Press Save

Addresses:

HFC MAC - Your Mac Address ( 10 meg Mac )
Ethernet Mac - Dont touch
USB MAC - Copy your HFC MAC address, only this time change the last letter/number on it to 1 letter/number higher.
Serial Number - Dont Touch
Press Save

Config File:

Server IP: Leave Blank as haxorware auto finds this itself!
Filename: Whatever you wish for your filename to use, if you want to force the 20mb option, then use - cmreg-ntlhm250-rts22.cm for NTL area, once again TW etc will be different.
Autoserve Enabled - Unticked
Stored cfg/store new config - no need to do anything here.
Press Save

Baseline Privacy:

BPI - Disabled.
---------------------------------------

I could not get online with these.
So because i have used a 10 meg mac, i did not force a config, and have also tried to force a 10 meg config. Still nothing.
I have looked at my subbed modem and noticed that my serial is the same as my mac but without the colon : symbol so i changed that and still nothing.
I have also tried adding the tftp for my area, and tried the tftp which came up in dhcp sniffer ( shows as the gateway )which i believe is a national tftp. 10.137.103.8
Here is an event log perhaps someone could give me some advice as to what is wrong.

Acquire Downstream Channel In Progress
Obtain Upstream Parameters Waiting
Upstream Ranging Waiting
Establish IP Connectivity Waiting
Retrieve Time of Day Waiting
Negotiate security Waiting
Receive configuration Waiting
Register connection Waiting
Cable modem status Scanning

Personaly i think its the mac is from my ubr and that is the problem.
Only time will tell i suppose.

Sorry its such a long post but i have tried to give as much info as possible.

If any more info is needed then please ask.

I look forward to your help.

Cheers.

Yes I'm in!!

This is what i did ( for anyone who may have a problem.)

I did a factory reset, and rebooted.

Re-entered my freq at 586750000.

Unticked Enforce Bypass.

Reboot again.

Volia.

I have since forced a 20 meg config. and re ticked the Enforce Bypass ( Not sure if this is a good idea? )

Still online, have done some speed tests at speedtest.net, Maidenhead = 13meg down 400 up and London = 19.5Meg down and 700 up.

Thanks everyone.

Cheers.

How does one do a factory reset ?

And what is the latest frequency for Huddersfield ?

I'd appreciate any help given.

Thanks

Little more specific please mate?

What modem? What firmware?

Frequencies are as follows:

EX TW: 339000000 and 331000000
Ex N*L: 402750000
Ex C&W: 586750000

The Haynes cable guide does have a map that will tell you what area you are in, and in turn which frequency is appropriate to you.

This is true, but only for Haxorware firmware obviously!

I keep reading " snoof nic mac " what does that mean ??

Simply put, this is the address of the device that is connected to your modem, be it a router or your pc, it will need changing.

If you do use a router, refer to the user manual for how to change mac for the nic address. To change the nic mac on your PC, use Smac, to see how, google 'spoof nic mac with smac'.

Good luck
