I would use Hackware, you can update them without a Blackcat but you may need a RS232 cable - have a look in the Private FTA links, there may be some files and tut's in there.

You can do most SB4100 and SB4200 by netboot (over Ethernet), the others you use RS232 - have a look at the SB4100.Bad flash recovery.rar file, that shows you the connections for the RS232 adapter.
I've always had problems getting Fibreware off a modem and had to use the cable method, in theory you should be able to use netboot without even opening the modem. I believe you need a Blackcat to do the SB5xxx series.

Netboot does work with the SB3100, but you have to hit the reset button a couple of times at exactly the right time. Have a look around for a copy of the Haynes guide or other older tutorials and you should find the right timing
![]() BTW, as the SB3100 only has a 10BaseT connection, you will not get more than around 7Mbit download.

It's been a hell of a long time since I did one of those. If you don't get the timing right, the modem just re-boots without updating to the temporary firmware. You will see from the Netboot screen when it's connected to the modem and sending the firmware.
You will not get the hack tab until/unless the temporary firmware has been sent.
