Default Adding cable to sky dish

May be stupid question - any danger re microwave waves or power from connecting new satellite cable to a live sky dish ?

Getting anxious as I get older and maybe wiser about DIY

Don't make or break connections with the reciever turned on as you might damadge the lnb or reciever. Nothing that can hurt you though.

Don't stick your head inbetween the dish and LNB for 3 days and you'll be fine

You can get static shocks from any aerial or satellite cabling. Or is that just me??

Yep, I always get shocks of my motorised dish, don't think it's static though, but it doesn't hurt very much.

Well, I have found, if still connected to a powered up receiver or signal amp, yes you can get a slight tingling shock from the coaxial cabling, but it wouldn't be static, just a very low voltage shock.

Connected to nothing though, you may very well find you generated the static yourself, by clothing or flooring etc, and discharged it on the coaxial, thus the shock.

Switch the box off. When it is on it sends something like13 volts to the lnb.
switched of it is no problem.
You can the stick your head in front of the dish as many times as you want with no problems.

I blew my first box because I did not know that a voltage was going up the cable to the lnb.
I had a short between the core and the screen.

I have my box turned off and still feel a tingle. I think it is more to do with a potential difference between the cable screen and the ground outside.
