Default vplug and MP tvservice

I had vplug showing on the task bar once (vistatrayicon) but I had mediaportal in fullscreen mode so I couldn't see them together. Now that I've told MP not to start in fullscreen, I have a problem with the vistatrayicon. What is happening is MP Tvservice starts on bootup as a SYSTEM service. I open MP and then click on vistatrayicon.cmd. a window pops up saying it's closed the tvservice and started it again as a USER service. Then MP craps out saying lost connection to tvservice. Any idea how I get to see both again?

I have traced the crash to mdapifilter, was using 2.0.0.9. DD tells me that
Quote:
Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module.
Don't undertand what that means but I am now trying to reinstall with 2.0.0.8.

where's everyone, gone away for the weekend? feels like I'm having a monologue here. Anyway, just to confirm that mdapi2008 + vplug 2.3.9 works. mdapi2009 + vplug 2.4.2 didn't.
