No, it's not your modem that is blacklisted, it is the MAC adress of your network card.
When you connect to the CMTS the PC's NIC transmits its MAC to the DHCP server, this is checked against the cable co's blacklist. How you end up getting your NIC blacklisted is by using the same NIC MAC to with many different HFC (Cable Modem) MAC addresses. The cable company sees this and the know what the game is. But they aren't actually going to find you. It is always good practice to change your NIC MAC regularly. |
