Default Noob questions... please help! (especialy if you're near croydon!)

Hey guys,

I have a legit 20mb connection with vermin in the TW area (croydon). I cant believe they only give me a 700k upload speed and have been searching around for a solution. I have a few questions:

1) Do I need to buy these modems of Ebay and flash them myself?

2) Can I buy 'ready made' ones? or is anyone even local and willing to be paid for doing this for me?

3) Will I have to buy several of these modems and connect them to one another in order to get upload speeds of 2meg plus (ideally)?

Thanks.

In that case does anyone know any company that I can get a decent upload bandwidth with?

And what about the 50MB connection? Doesnt that have more than the 700k upload?

Hi, I more or less live in Croydon. Right next to it.

And yes, I know Danielle says you can't do it, but you can combine them to achieve higher speeds. But It will only work on torrents. You will not be able to combine the download speed in one file, like a http download.

The 50meg has an upload of 1.75meg but you'll get about 1.5-1.6meg.

If you have a BT line and don't live too far from the exchange then try be https://www.bethere.co.uk/ as their pro package gives you a 2.5mb upload. Have a look on Samknows to see what kind of speed you could expect from your line on ADSL

Unfortunately though with be pro, the extra upload is at the expense of your downstream bandwidth.

Err.

It would not work with xbox live becaue of two differing IP's.

But I am struggling to understand why you need that much b/w for xbox live?

If it's an uncontended connection you want, I recommend second modem.

Also, protocol is irrelevent.

I don't even think a load balancing router would do with xbox live, because of the ip.

Also, a download manager can be used...
