Default Wireless Laptop from modem only? Help please

Hi,

I have a standard internet connection with my ISP VM. I currently have the modem connected to my IBM Laptop via ethernet and the main cable line coming in from outside into the modem.

What I would like is to know how to create wireless connection for the laptop so I can take it into other room around the house without. I am lost on this topic as I know the connection has to be bridged from the modem to reach the laptop which would be a problem as I only have the laptop which I want wireless anyway, but I am sure there is another way around this which my knowledge is poor on.

Do I need a access point device connected to the modem of some sort to distribute wireless?

Do I need the router along with this access point?

Therefore any help and advice would be greatly appreiciated.

Thanks

Hi,

All you need is a wireless router. Vermin should be able to supply you with one (poss for free if you push em) If not, a Netgear one is easy to use, and cheap.

Simply plug the ethernet cable into the back of the wireless router, and then search with your laptop for the network.

If you have any problems when you get the router, let me know and I will talk you through step by step, but its faily straight forward once you have the kit.
