Default Satellite Distribution Amplifer

Hi,

I'm pulling my hair out and could do with some advice while i still have some hair left!

I've run Coax cable to two other rooms of my house where i have small TVs so that I don't have to have unsightly portable aerials in bedrooms plus i can watch DVDs etc from my main TV downstairs.

I have a Sky+ system and I've recently seen the TVlink remote eye system that allows me to operate the sky box from another room in the house.

Great!

I turned on the RF outlet setting on my Sky box and bought two kits with Sky controllers as a bundle and hooked one up - it worked fine with good reception.

I thought I'd be able to use the simple Y-splitter to do the same in the other room but apparently it doesn't work like that so I bought a Proception Satellite Distribution Amplifier with return path as this will allow me to have the two remote TVlinks working at the same time.

I've hooked it up and it 'works', but the reception is pretty bad on the two tv's away from the main room - not crystal clear as it was. The main TV is still fine.

The reception is bad on analogue TV, Freeview (TV has built in freeview) and SKY. It's pixelated on Freeview and fuzzy on Sky. Also you can just make out the feint ghosting of another channel.

If I remove the proception amp and hook up only one TV upstairs again the reception is great again.

Do I have a duff Proception amp?

Any help would be good - I'll have to go back to the shop I bought the Satellite Distribution Amplifier in to swap it and try a different amp but I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Hey,

I have a distrubtion amp, but for a different way to yourself.

Do you have any Amplication "nobs" on your distrubtion amp, if so mess around with them, see which settings give you the best settings.

You may also want to concider purchasing an amplifier of your original input, which will improve the signal in the other rooms, as around 10-25% of signal is lost in "lower" market amps, and so that may solve your problem.

Hope this helps

If it works without an amplifier to start with, you are probably over-amplifying the signal. What gain has the amp? You normally need no more than 0.2dB of gain per metre of cable. So a 30m cable would need 30 x 0.2 = 6dB of gain.
