Default Eurovox Ex5100 (PVR) 120GB HDD

Hello everyone,

I am investing in a new box (from a dbox 2) and am planning on buying a Eurovox Ex5100 (PVR) 120GB HDD. I was wondering if anyone has got one of these/ knows anyone who has, and could give me some feedback on what they ae like.

Is it worth paying the extra for the 120gb HDD?
Is that feature likely to give me any problems in the future?
Are the boxes stable/ not likely to crash in the near future?

I'm sorry if i seem like i know nothing about this, but I DON'T!!!

Any opinions or feedback will be very gratefully recieved.

thanks.

Andy

Hi,

Dont really hear about any problems so thats a good thing! Eurovoxs are basic and any problems are quickly sorted - Especially with the guys on here

How much are you paying for it? There has been loads of threads recently on the 5100 or EX7000(hd). Most people are saying the EX7000 is the one to go for due to the upscaling feature (even though there is only 1 HD channel at the mo)

Could get one of these for about £20 more, and then you can get a usb HDD (connection at the back so is out of the way) for the pause Live TV etc.

Know its an extra cost, but if he piture quality is what your after (ep for sports) the EX7000 seems the way to go.

Thanks for that mate. So if you were buying a new box now- you would go for the HD version?

Also how much is a HDD USB drive? Is it that simple. You plug it into your USB socket and off you go?

Thanks

Andy

yeah, not go one yet but will be getting one very soon.

Def worth the extra money from what I have read on here and other sites. HDD will cost about £40, Link below shows one like what you need, but you spend some time searching the net. Might get one even cheaper.

160GB external HDD, 2.5", USB 2.0, Slim Aluminium Case: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

All you have to do is format the HD to FAT32 and you will be ready to use You may need to download a program to format the HD, as windows does sometime bring up an error, but these are free. There are links on other threads, but if you cant find one (on here or google) let me know and I will find it.

Thanks again matey,

I'll give it a week or so and then i'll buy myself one of the HD boxes.

1 last question. what is the main difference between a dbox and a Eurovox? Is there any? Or is it just a different type of box?

Thanks

Andy

Dbox are linux based so when things change they get the "updates" quicker. Because Eurovoxs aint, it takes longer for the updates to be made.

They both have great suport though, so think no matter what happens, you will be ok in the long run.
