Firewire on board shouldn't need drivers beyond plug and play provided by windows. It might not be a software problem and might be a fried port. Buy a cheap pci ieee1394 from ebay or local cheapo components shop. maplin sells em for £20 but you can get em for a fiver on ebay. This will help you rule that out as an issue anyhow.

Thanks for that info, however it seems to be an on/off problem. Sometimes I see that error sometimes I don't. If i don't, sometimes I don't get signal in FireDTV. I'm not sure what to do.

Its most probably my Firewire port than. I've ordered a PCI Express Firewire Card and hopefully this solves the problem.

I've tried connecting my FloppyDTV to the Firewire card and still no luck, I still seem to be getting the same problem. Does anybody know anything else I can do?

I thnk you're right in thinking it's to do with firewire - I had a lot of issues wth mine. Felt ike giving up and burning the whole thing.

Have yu tried firmware updaes on the FDTV? Tried a different cable? Tried the other Firewire ort on the FDTV? I heard of issues with Firewire drivers, have you tried the native windows drivers?

(looks like I need new bateries in the wireless keyboard!)

I'd rule out it being a hardware fault pc side on the basis that the problem still occurs with the new card. Too much of a coincidence if the pc side firewire ports were knackered on the new card as well as on the mainboard. So it's either a firmware issue with the fireDTV, a hardware issue with the fireDTV (loose connection perhaps - check the solder and wire connections) or a vista software issue.

Have you got access to any other firewire devices, such as a video camera that you could try connect to your pc? This would help diagnose if it is a software issue on the pc.

I haven't got enough experience with firewire on vista but I am well aware of several issues with usb that cause the pc to not accept external hard drives and thumb drives despite there being no issue with either the drive or the usb port. Could be something similar...

good luck

Thanks for both your posts. Cafe-Rcaer I have tried numerous things such as updating the drivers for Firewire on Windows and various other drivers, however none of these seem to have fixed the issue.

After speaking to an adviser at Digital Everywhere it seems that knmwt15000 was right and that my FloppyDTV is faulty, however there is no way I can 100% sure as I don't have any other Firewire Devices. I should know more in a couple of days when the adviser gets back to me on how to fix the problem.

This problem started in late February but now its gotten to a point where I can't watch TV for 2 mins without FireDTV/DVBDream crashing ore freezing, if I can get onto to watch something. Hopefully the problem will be sorted soon.

After help from lots of various sources, it seems that my Firewire cable had been damaged. I've now replaced it and everything is back to normal.
