Default Signal problem ?

Firstly I'd like to say I was pointed in the direction of these forums and I have to say I'm impressed so keep up the good work lads
Well heres my problem. A friend of mine in the area recently got a flashed modem and it has been running great so I decided to get one. he flashed it for me in his house and put in the MAC and it was running fine for the day while I was there. I then brought it over to my house which is roughly less than a mile away and only the 'recv' light was flashing. My friend then came around as he thought it might be the MAC but he tried lots for different areas and 9/10 only the 'recv' light would flash but the odd time the 'recv' light would turn solid and the 'send' light would flash but it would never go solid so I can't get online. He tried lots of working MACS but I just can't get online.
Could this be a signal issue or is it more a MAC issue ? Teh MACs he tried work fine for him just a few minutes drive from me and are from different areas but just my luck as usual I cant get online.
Heres a screenie of what it looks like most of the time in the signal settings.

EDIT: I have not got enough posts to be allowd to post an image so heres what is says in the signal tab in the Haxorware modem settings.

there are LOADS of issues, please feel free to read around this forum, as there is lots to take on board, and if I tell you to try one thing your only gonna come back with..."how"..."what"...Where"....etc

Hi Lee-ds I see that alright from browsing. To be honest I thought this would be just plug and play. From browsing I see lots of issues in the UK but nothing of Ireland. I should have stated im in ireland my apologies.
The thing is the modem is working less than a mile from me without any problems but as soon as I set it up I get nothing. Ive tried scores of different MACs from different areas but nothing. At least if it's a signal problem I can look to get a booster but I dont want to waste money if it aint a signal problem

There are a few lads from Eire mate, and all are still having trouble.

Best I can suggest, is read as much as you can and try the different anecdotes that you come across mate.

Ok thanks I'll give the cable forum a good going over.
Cockneysean the upstream seems to fluctuate on all macs i try. when I enter a mac and reboot the modem the transmit power will start at 8 dBmV and then go up to 55dBmV and then back down to 39 dBmV and then even down as far as 14 dBmV. I was thinking this was the problem but I'm not sure.
Ta chaps I'll go do some more reading through the forums and see if I can see something that can help me out.
