Default Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4000DVB - also a complete N00b

Hi all,

Girlfriend has discovered taht she still has her Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4000DVB from when she was on VM/Telewest.

Now I have VM at home and Im wanting to use this as a second box.

Can anyone point me in the right direction with step by step.

It was originaly at a B25 post code and I live in WS7 (lichfield exchange)

Its still got its Telewest Nagravision card. And I can get into the Engineers Menu - but from there im lost.

thanks
Andi

No worries, just be sure to follow the forum etiquette!

I believe he is floating around, best to ask him by PM, direct him to this thread, he will likely post any results here.

now then, first thing first we need to assertain if where you live now is infact TW land.

think you can go to www.dslzoneuk.net/ntl_region.php and enter your postcode.

once you've done that, we can go forward with whats the best thing to do with the box.....

if you are in telewest land, well then the goings good, if not, well flog it, its not worth the hassle trying to get it to work on c+w (not sure about pure)

one thing to note is that whatever you do, do not put the box on feed with the card in... by all means take the card out and test the box but not with the card in.

if you do test the box, see if you can get any free to air chans and go in the guide and go to settings and see if you can guess the pin. (or if the girlfriend can remmeber it). once we've done that we'll move forward.

one more thing to ask is has the box been modded before? is there any numbers on the box or the card? or, is this box what she used to subsc to tw?

The box is what she was given when she subscribed to them - they jsut didnt come and pick it back up.

well the postcodes have changed opver the past couple of months from WS78AW to WS71AW - the first one comes up as Langley (original ntl) platform - the other said not an ntl area (strange when i got theere services and bills)

According to my brother who seems to think he knows waht hes onabout - he did test the box out fully wired up with the card in and just got the display falshing green.

Testing the box with the feed in - It starts to say "tune" whilst the standby light is red.
If I hold up + down it cycles through AP: 00 to AP:52 and just sits on AP52- with the VM pringles logo showing. The standby light is now a stable green, but theres a flashing green light just below it.(modem)

so your not in telewest land and the box is from telewest.

you are, if the website is correct, in pure ntl.

i'm not totally sure if the box will work. i dont have any experience with 'pure' so your best of asking someone if they have ever got a sa4000dvb working in pure.

tbh, i dont think anyone will have
