I used a lot of firewalls on my system one of my favorite is tiny personal firewall combined with winpatrol and then on my nix box apf is still the best, do you have any other raves and rantings about firewalls? pls. post them here.
anything about firewalls: Kerio Personal Firewall gives users a choice – limited program control and no popups or powerful control and (initially) many popups. This flexibility makes it a good choice in many situations. Some features of the Pro version are disabled, but these aren't essential to the basic function of a personal firewall. |

We found Outpost a bit rough around the edges. The average user might well lose access to file sharing and the Internet after installing it. On the other hand, for the penurious über-geek it offers more detailed settings than most. And the plug-in architecture allows endless expansion of its features.

Sygate Personal Firewall is easy to use and does its basic job well. It offers some degree of advanced program control, as well as other advanced features like email notification, full packet logging, and user-defined rules. Our one gripe; its confirmation popups are a bit hard to decipher.

We expect more of ZoneAlarm because its Pro version is so powerful, but in truth the free version is a fine solution for many users. It won't block leak test techniques, but malware applications will have a tough time attacking it directly. Once it learns which programs are allowed Internet access, the confirmation popups stop coming so fast.

Kerio WinRoute Firewall 6 is a capable software firewall. The well-integrated McAfee antivirus engine and ISS Orange Web Filter engine (both optional) round out this border protection solution. But the product lacks several features needed to succeed in a large corporate environment, such as directory integration and full-featured reporting.

ZoneAlarm Pro 5.5's firewall protection, both against hack attacks and unauthorized programs, is near-perfect. Its AlertAdvisor minimizes the annoying program-authorization popups, and the program offers a number of bonus features to enhance your system's security.

Norton Personal Firewall 2005 protected our test system from inbound port-scan attacks, Trojan-style leak test attacks, and manual attacks on the firewall process itself. Its ability to AutoBlock an IP address after an attack stymies denial-of-service attacks. Add privacy control and ad blocking and you get a package that's hard to beat.

McAfee Personal Firewall Plus 6.0 is easy to set up and quickly learns what programs are allowed Internet access. It tested well against external intrusion and against direct attacks on the firewall process. But if a brand-new worm or Trojan using any of the well-known leak test techniques attacks on your system, it won't protect you.

I like ZoneAlarm. I switched to it from Black Ice. I've tried a couple of firewalls from the big names but they made my computer seem sluggish and did no more than ZoneAlarm.
