And you're done. After this, let it scan (as above) then after that you will have to combine channels together...

Default Combining Channels

So, once you've scanned, you can then combine channels together. This will "merge" two separate channels (sources) into one.

Here I've done it with one Freeview Tuner and one FDTV-C, and you'll see that there's a potential limitation (Virgin 1 on Freeview not broadcasting before 18:00).

On the third step I'm showing that you can press Number Buttons on the remote (or keys on the keyboard) to jump the list. Pressing V, then I, then R will jump to Vir. On step 4, you can see where the Sort by Number button is, then on Step 5 I'm showing that you can then press remote buttons or keyboard keys to jump to that number. The "Home" and "End" keys also work.

Default Combining Channels

Select the channel you want to combine with, then read the "Confirm Channel Edit" screen, and hopefully it should start to make more sense.

You can see on this screen that the freeview channel is off the air while the FDTV-C isn't - so I've nipped into the Sources bit where you can check which tuners are used for which channels, change their priority, deselect them or even "Split" them back the way they were (although I have lost channels this way).

The only other thing to post is about "Autoselect" (on the edit channel menu somewhere). This will run through ALL channels and test each source (TV Tuner) to make sure it has a signal, and will disable just the source or the entire channel if it doesn't find one.

Particularly useful to deselect all analogue sources. It will work without running autoselect, but you will get "Recording failed to start, no signal was detected" when VMC first tries the analogue tuner, then tries the next one. Better to run it once, takes ages to run through, though. Like two hours.

Just for info, i tried this with Windows 7 Media Centre. (Builds 7077 & 7100RC)

The wizard is slightly different when it comes to the "Set top Box" part of the install. Windows 7 Insists that you have an IR receiver plugged in with the IR emitters attached so that it can talk to the set top box. It does a "Hardware search" for the devices and won't let you go on with the setup unless you have them.

I personally don't have them so can't report on W7 past that point... (

So does ME2005 and VMC, to be honest. Should've mentioned it. Although, I don't think you have to have the blasters (emitters), just the MCE compatible receiver.

I never used it, but I remember seeing a "fake" driver MCE Receiver driver, that made VMC beleive there was one installed, even when there wasn't. Edit: don't get confused by "MCE Remote Replacement" drivers, they were intended to replace the MS drivers and add additional features. IMHO they have been outdated by IRSS from the MP Team.

To be honest, having a remote control "makes" a HTPC, so I would just order one, if you can find one...

I've got the remote and USB reciever, just can't find the emmiters.!! which is a real pain.!! 7MC searches the hardware for them too...
