As I screen dumped all these, I thought they would be useful in a guide format.
This is the setup with an analogue card to get the downloaded guide, and with 2xFireDTVs (FDTV-C meaning FireDTV-C or FloppyDTV-C) with the MCE Driver (hence they pretend to be DVB-T). Perhaps someone that uses a DVB-C to get the guide could comment on the (any) differences. If you don't have an analogue or DVB-C BDA card to get the downloaded guide, jump to post 4. It might be possible to install the FDTV-C BDA drivers instead of the MCE drivers, use that to setup the guide, then switch to the MCE drivers. I beleive I tried this, and rerunning TV Setup (to scan channels) "lost" the BDA driver setup. This "wizard" should automatically start the first time you go to use VMC, or if you choose [TV Setup] from the Tasks > Settings Menu. Notes: Step 2. Obviously, you'll want to put YOUR postcode in here. Last edited by Cafe.Rcaer; 21-04-09 at 03:05 PM. |

You can see that you don't actually have to have a signal coming in (in otherwords you don't have to have a STB), just choose S-Video and click next.
Or course, if you do have a STB, you could use that as a source, but the picture's so crap unless you have a decent analogue card... I've gone through the "I don't have a remote control", and chosen the "NTL" STB and then chosen the first remote on the list (next set of screen shots). If you do have a STB+remote, well, I'm sure you can figure it out... Last edited by Cafe.Rcaer; 21-04-09 at 02:56 PM. |

This is the bit bit you're after - it allows you to select the Virgin Cable Lineup (not the analogue cable lineup that's highlighted - I must've moved the mouse, ignore that).
Important to say "Yes" to "Do you want to set up another signal" in order to setup the FDTV-C card(s) as DVB-T cards.. Start from here if you don't have an analogue card for the guide. Last edited by Cafe.Rcaer; 21-04-09 at 03:01 PM. |

That's it, you're done. You'll notice that I have got 344 Channels, I think the most I've seen is 346 - it depends what time of day you scan (CBBC for example stops after 18:00), so run through the TV Setup, choosing the "Scan for more channels" option to re-scan.

Can't edit first post, now, someone ought to mention about getting the right transponders... Also, on the Program Guide Terms of Service, if you press up twice on the remote it saves you scrolling all the way to the bottom. On the Examining TV Signals screen, you can select cancel and it'll take you through to set them up manually (rather than sitting there for ages only to set them up manually anyway). Trick seems to be to select the Freeview tuner before the FDTV-C, by only selecting one tuner THEN adding the other.
No reason why you couldn't use an analogue tuner to get the Downloaded guide. Follow Post 2 up to Step 1, then add the freeview tuner: Last edited by Cafe.Rcaer; 21-04-09 at 05:36 PM. |
