Default Stuck on "ON"

Hi

A friends bought a box round that just sits on "ON", tried a reflash lets me reflash with moving dashes and all that and comes up with flashing successeful but its still same and Ive tried all the obvious plugging it on off in the hope it kicks in, leaving it plugged off but still same.

Anybody any ideas.

Try turning on/off and then changing channels from the actual unit and not the remote, if this works then the IR TX in the box will be faulty if it works following what I have said.

Hi

Could this be psu related, just wondered. I`l try and change the caps just for the hell of it and see if it gets it going unless someone knows the answer to it.

Sounds like a firmware problem to me. You're getting power - it switches on - so the PSU should be fine. If your box is freezing up it may be struggling to execute the proceeding code. Having said that, I have an IT background, I'm not so hot with cable boxes.

Although the power is stuck on standby, this tells me that is is almost certain a psu problem and I doubt the caps will be the problem, more likely a voltage regulator problem on ths one.

Hi

Its not a firmware problem as Ive tried different firmware just to get past the "on" but it doesnt so most likely a psu as jambutty says.

Will need to check the votage regulator, is it a question of taking off and replacing.

Switch mode PSU's are a pain. There are so many control loops in them
i.e. everything relying on something else to function, it just needs one
thing to drift out of spec to bring the lot down.
So I am going to post a thread on Repairing PSU's with advice and I recomend people with PSU issues read my info carefully.

Hi

Just an update today managed to borrow a friends kryptview and swapped psu and its still stuck on "on" and the psu from the stuck box powers up friends box fine so its not psu in this case but something else on the board itself if anybody can shed some light on it.
