Default pace 1010 box help needed...

hi all,
got up yesterday morning to find my box locked up and displaying 8888, blew and cleaned the little pcb but no good so applied heat to the chips but its still locked up and the 4x8's are still displayed anything more i can try please,

Check and check again that you Simm is seated correctly, try removing it, cleaning the slot, and bending the clips, to hold the simm tighter, then re-insert.

Often caused by dust build up in my previous experience, something shorts and it goes 88:88

thanks for your reply,ok i have taken it back out and cleaned it, and blew out the slot again,spring clips are tight,re-inserted it and its still on 8888?

Sounds like a re-flow job.

Something I cannot even begin to advise you on, and from what I have read, it very rarely works.

Can anyone shed some more light on this? Is it indeed in need of the atmels being re-flowed?

reflowing the attys is the best trick i know! i've got loads of previously faulty boxes (especially 2000's) going by fluxing the legs and going over with the rework till the solder is shiny again.

i use a temp of about 400degs

Any boxes that would work in pure that you may perhaps like to have taken off your hands?

yey Gav,ok mate i have a mini torch would have a go if i knew which chips to do? did you get the pic i sent to your fone ? is it the ones on the simm? or the two oblong flat ones to the right of the simm but on the main board?

yeah, its the oblong flat ones to the right of the simm but on the main board.

ok mate i'll have a go,should i brush flux over the chip legs or just heat the solder? board out or leave it in situ?
