Default Newbie Wondering About boxes

Some guy at my Dad's work has offered him a box that he can receive free pay per view sport channels on it for £150, so my dad rang me asking me to do some research so here I am with many questions!

We don't have cable in your are so after reading some stickiest and stuff on the net i'm guessing we cannot use this box and/or receive free PPV channels?

My uncle is also after a box that does currently have cable with Virgin Media, if he stops that subscription and he stops paying for virgin he can use a box (links to cheapest boxes) with flashed firmware to view these PPV channels correct?

As i've said we don't have cable in our house but it does however run down our street just not up to our door how would I go about getting it done to the door and then what do I have to pay other then getting the actual cable run?

Sorry about all the questions any information on anything above will be really appreciated!

Thanks
Simon

Technically,

Yes he could cancel, and use a box to get everything free. But, one, its entirely unethical to do so, and two, you should always pay a subscription of some sort..

How else will the cable companies continue to function is no one paid for what they used?

I do mod boxes, and modems, doesn't mean I don't pay for broadband and TV too though!

In my honest opinion, he should keep a minimum package, be it TV or Broadband, this way it keeps the cable company afloat and his house connected to the network!

Also, I'd bear in mind whats been said by Danielle, the search function is invaluable and you will need to use it alot more than you currently have, if you plan to stick around here, that is

I read that but didn't read that I had to make a thread and introduce myself.

Clearly problem on here with people who do a search and still are not 100% sure what is what if that’s how it is I can go elsewhere?

Finally some helpfull help! Yeah he would keep his normal subscription which is the lowest subscription he can currently get at the moment anyway.

So it's as simple as getting a box such as this one "Eurovox EX1000 SL" and following the guides in the sticky threads on flashing the box and then it's sorted?

I did search and read a fair few posts/stickies just needed it explaining in a simple stupid way, didn't mean to cause offence to anybody as such!

Thanks
Simon
