Default Questions re Starview 4 TheBox Super USB

Hi, I have looking around the internet for a cable receiver and am considering getting the ‘Starview 4 TheBox Super USB’ plus a USB hard drive for recording.

One of the things I was trying to find out is whether it is able to record on one cable channel whilst watching another cable channel ? Does anyone know for sure if it can do this ?

I don’t know a lot about these boxes, and not even sure if it would work on a Virgin Media/Telewest cable connection (I am currently a VM broadband/phone and basic TV customer). Could somebody confirm it would work on such a connection ?

I was also wondering if it is easy to get updates of the firmware for this box and where are the best places to get such updates.

Finally sorry about all the questions but can anybody recommend any good sellers on the internet or EBay, as I’ve heard there are a lot of ‘clones’ about which are to be avoided.

Many thanks for any advice.

yes and no.so long as the channel you are recording is on the same frequency as a channel you want to watch (ie ITV2 and ITV3)but it is not possible to watch any other channel in the way a sky+ box works.

All the updates are on here or other forums and at present when the boxes go down the support is pretty good.

Stay away from ebay(IMO).skywonder are ok and sell only genuine boxes and others will give you advice on other reputable dealers.
Ref the package you already have i cant see any reason why it wont work as you have all there products.Hope this helps

Hi, thank you very much indeed for info -this has been very helpful.

I was wondering if the Eurovox EX5100 PVR works the same way as regards recording, ie can only record a different channel if its on the same frequency - or maybe it can only record on the channel your currently watching ?

I'm trying to decide between these two boxes, and wonder what would be the best option. I would be interested to hear other people's experiences with these boxes and what they'd recommend.

Many thanks again for info.

The Eurovox EX5100 PVR seems to me to be a more reliable model than Starview software comes preloaded just basically switch on and go. At the front you can load an 80Gb or 120Gb hard drive (laptop one) to record and at £99.99 it is not bad a choice. I have been running a Eurovox for over 18 months with no problems occasionally you have to update code but that is no hassle if you have Keymaster on your PC. Look at digi-force.co.uk they do have a quick service and prices are good.
