Yes, but lets not make it out to be something that it isn't.

Simple common sense will suffice to keep you OK.

Jojolv, you should explain the reasons why instead of scare mongering.

For you to be traced on the VM network to a particular address AFAIK it would involve taking the whole UBR temporarily off line, or interrupting it's service in some other way. This means that all the customers on that UBR would be affected and it would cost them too much in credit notes to customers to take them all offline. Plus the costs of the engineers to perform the task which, if you do some research, it's quite a complicated task, put them off from tracking down cloned modem users.

In real world costs you aren't actually stealing anything off of them so you aren't really costing them any money. Even if you are the real world figure would be negligible. More often than not when cases like this go to court it falls under the misuse of electricity act or something similar to that, and the figures placed on what has been misappropriated are always in the pennies.

TL;DR Use your head you aren't going to get caught. IE don't shout and tell everyone you know that you get free nets.
