Politicians in Ireland are pressing Sky to make this year's Ryder Cup available on terrestrial TV in the country.
Politician Jimmy Deenihan has called for the 2006 Ryder Cup to be made available on free-to-air TV. The Fine Gael Sports spokesman on sports said there was massive public interest in the event, which he described as one of the most significant tournaments ever to be held in Ireland. “Rarely does Ireland get the opportunity to host such a high-profile event, but there is every likelihood that the Ryder Cup will only be broadcast on subscription television. “It would be a real shame if this event were not made available on free-to-air terrestrial television,†he said. |
