Question Cyfra+ (Nagravision3)?!

Dear Colleagues,

I’ve got TM 5400 CI USB Super.

I was hoping I could use it with Cyfra+ card (Nagravision 3) due to its multicrypt card reader. However, when I inserted the Cyfra+ card in, it said wrong card.

I have got original Cyfra+ decoder so there’s nothing wrong with the card.

Does anyone know if I can use Cyfra+ cards with TM 5400? If not, is there a CAM out there that can read it?

Regards,

SoggyBottomBoy

All,

OK. Made a complete dumb a**e of myself.

TM 5400 CI USB Super can indeed read Cyfra+ card.

All I needed to do was to insert it chip face down…….

Never mind, it’s all working now. Got Cyfra+ and lots of other channels on Hotbird.

Regards,

I spent ages trying to get my sly card working in my diablo. Worked fine when I realised it had to go upside down

The chip should ALWAYS be oriented towards the thickest side of the CAM. It's where the electronics reside.

glad that you are sorted m8. Just for the record : Cyfra+ is encrypted in Seca not N3 . (Polsat is) If it was N3 there would be a big no go, as the official n3 cards are paired with the official receivers (hence the official polsat cards do not work in Technomates )

I do not own (or see) British proprietary tin cans, so I cannot comment on them. I prefere open solutions, ie a good Topfield or Humax with a CAM for the subscription. Why, because of the build quality, image quality, freedom (in Germany Premiere did not allow time shifting nor recording, now it does but the receivers are nuttered not to escape a single bit outside), low power comsumption (proprietary cans keep always the LNB under power, thus 15W stdby are common), easy change of CAM when subscription changes etc. etc., you name it.

But if one uses a CAM, the CAM being usually asymetric, then the card should be placed in such a manner that the chip (the copper plates) faces the thicker side of the CAM.
