Default Selfsat/ flat dish help please! driving me mad

hi there,

if anyone could help me with this it would be great!

I live in the south of France. Selfsat dish is set up on the balcony of my flat with no obstruction. The digibox (Panasonic DSB40) is showing 100% signal strength and 90% signal quality only varying a minute amount during poor weather conditions. Correctly pointed if Im not mistaken as box showing network id 0002 and transport stream 07d4.

HOWEVER! cannot get bbc channels and various channels either not working at all or at varyiong times and those that do work have signal break up, lagging and freeze. I have tried the box elsewhere and it works fine so do not think that it is the box. I have re-fixed the f connectors without any amelioration of the problem.

As I havent been able to find much about these dishes It would be great to hear from anyone knowing anything about them!!

I just cant understand why this isnt working with the signal I am receiving!!

Hi, It seems that you are having problems recieving the 2d beam which is quite a tight focus on the UK. While the south of france is just within the footprint, you will still need quite a large dish to recieve it. The flat plate antennas are usually best used with strong signals.

so better swap the selfsat h12d for a normal parabolic? are there any self sat dishes that are a little more 'powerful' in terms of being able to recieve the signals?

the didgibox is showing 100% signal strentgh from the selfsat which is what I dont understand!

Yes on tests in France the Selfsat works okay in Northern France but not further south, you will need to use a larger dish.

If the digibox is looking at a transponder on another beam like the 2a south beam it will be getting a good signal. I can't remember which TP sly boxes look at for the meter, on generic boxes you can alter it. Also it's the signal quality you need to look at.

From what I've read you will be looking at around the 1m ish size dish, but as sat-world suggests, check out reception reports, or talk to a local installer who should have a good idea.

The default transponder for Sky digiboxes is:

11778V
27500
2/3

As you have been told on the satellites.co.uk forum those square antennas are useless in fringe reception conditions. Take it down and stick at least a 90cm parabolic up instead - then you stand a reasonable chance of getting the wanted 2D channels.

Theres no way to make a tiddly square antenna perform as well as a proper dish where the incoming signal is very weak
