Comag/SilverCrest Good all-round receivers, some of which are 'patchable'

Default SL30/12 or SL65/12 Portable

First post so please be gentle.

I'm looking at buying one of the poratble suitcase systems that came from either Lidl, Aldi, Maplins or Netto. The dish LNB's are all basically the same just differnt receivers and a 12v one would be useful.

I'm down to one with a Comag (silvercrest) SL65/12 or one with SL30/12 and I'm not sure which would be the better receiver.

I'm looking to use it in on holiday for basic Astra FTA viewing possibly in Scotland so sensitivity might be an issue with a smaller dish.

Any views or the pros and cons and experiences of both would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Footnote: I've discounted the SC25 (the overgrown scart one) as it doesn't look like its got much conectivity flexibility.

Hi mate,

I have one of these kits from maplins bought about 2 years ago. The dish's are 39cm. I have used to dish many times for sly, 19.2 13e 5e 30w. I was testing the other day and even managed to bring in thor. The sl65/12 I have has a built in sat meter/Beeper to tell you when your on the sat. The only issue I have is that it was an early eversion with the m3329a1 chip in it and I could not patch it.

Thanks for the reply. I've been doing a bit more googling since I first posted this and understand that the SL65/12 that used to come with these portable kits has now been swapped over to the SL30/12. I understand it is basically the same receiver but a purely stripped down version of the SL65 without all the connections on the back. No difference in performance etc.

I've read a little about patching but wonder if there is much to be gained nowadays from doing so as I'm not sure how many extra channels it would pull in.

Thanks once again.

If you could find a patch that opens digi tv then you would get the entire package on thor at 1w. But problem is that with such a little dish you would stuggle to get any signal at all. I managed to get bbc world on a sunny day in west yorkshire plus a number of other channels. but so much as wave my hand in front of the dish and it went. Theres plent of fta stuff to watch though on 28, 19 and 13e. The case even allows you to use it as a stand.

I use the sl65/12, when camping. I bought it 3 years ago, I would not be without it now, the main reason being the suction mount kit it comes with. Once you know roughly were the satellite is that you want and you get a lock on it, you can park the car in the same spot look for the suction marks on the roof, stick the dish back on and tv almost instant. As for patching, well I done it, but not to much benefit unless you are in the clique on these sites info is like blood out of stones unfortunately. Hope this has helped you.
