What does the receiver have marked on the front? Is it a clone Dreambox, an Eagle box or something else?
Without knowing the receiver, it is difficult to guess which image might be installed.

I know nothing about them apart from what I have read
the open media box is a cable and satellite box in one (has a tuner for each) they are a clone of the dreambox 500c and 500s and run on the same images software etc. |

Its a dreambox 500c and a 500s built into one. It has dual tuners for cable and also sat. You turn the box off and select either cable or sat from a switch at the back then you can load 500s or 500c images. From what I understand it is also clone safe.

Ok you do have the Openmedia box as you said. Its always worth checking because putting an incorrect image on a linux box can cause serious problems.
Your box comes with the neutrino image as standard and has a switched option to select the satellite or the cable tuner. ( not both simultaneously so you cant watch cable whilst recording satellite programmes and vice versa ). I would suggest that currently the best image for satellite would be the Nabilosat Dark Star Maxvar image which allows you to download emulators for decoding if you are directly connected to the internet. The image for the cable tuner would be the current Dreambox 500c image although I dont have a cable Dreambox so I am not sure which image is best. To select which tuner, you need to power off the box and select the tuner at the back of the box.

I would have a look over at gbox or cccam forum as you are more likely to get more help there

What you should really be asking where did you buy it from? Some shops might pre-install an image for you and everyone knows what image they install. Also when it loads up, what does it say on the picture(when loading up)
