Default pace boxes and cards

hi all hope theres someone out there who can point me in right direction, ive had pace boxes for a while now and have allways had someone to deal with them when they have gone down, all my boxes are allready chipped but if or when they go down i was going to try deal with it myself, is it a complicated process and should i put the feelers out for a new contact or is it possible for a novice like me to do it, a list of what cables etc i need and guide would be great if anyone can just give me a clue, hopefully will have months to try figure it out cheers
