Default Other cable suppliers hackable?

I was looking @ this and saw that the UK has more than one source of cable. I was wondering if virmin upgrade their encryption, would it be possible to still view pay TV on these dodgy boxes with companies like the KCOM group and WrightCable

Or do these boxes only work on the basis that we are using fibre optic cables?(Presumably these smaller companies are not using fibre optics, as it probably costs them a lot to get started with fibre optics)

In February 2006, Kingston Communications announced that it would be ceasing its Video on Demand and Digital TV services (called Kingston Interactive TV - KIT) on 1 April 2006.[3]

Thats a quote from the article you pointed and for the other, how are you going to get a cable feed from the isle of wight to west yorkshire ?

Well I thought they may just do a UK wide(including isles) cable thing. And also I thought that maybe you could watch TV through the broadband wire
