I bought a cheap older pc 1.7 celeron that had win 2000 on it. I wiped it off and put ubuntu onto it. Very crisp and clean. I have it using homeplugs for net access. I understand wi-fi support is a little lacking on linux box's. If you burn the ubunto iso onto cd you can boot from it and try it first before an install.
