Default Virgin 10Mb Broadband

Hi All,

Just some info please peeps.

I got the 10Mb broadband from virgin over the weekend, now it was downloading at around 9Mb for the best part of the day but then later on when my downloads slowed right down I did a speed check and its was down to 2Mb!! Now I have heard that virgin do a dailly allowance cap on your 10Mb broadband then falls to 2Mb if you go above this limit!

Has anyone heard this, not checked if the speed has gone back up to today but will when get in from work.

So any info regarding this, if this is the case might leave them, as you get 28 days to change contract/mind.

Thanks all.

Virgin have a well known traffic cap, you go over the limit, then you're speed restricted for 4 or 5 hours. When it gets busy in the evenings, there's also often some net congestion.

So first you were downloading at 1.25MBs and then it dropped to 250kb?

If it is this, then lincsat explains it well

However, if you are thinking you were getting 9MB, then it dropped to 2MB then you are wrong. No one can get 9MB in the country(yet) although VM are trialling a 200Mb broadband service

Yes you might get between 15Megabits and 17Megabits, but 15Mb=1.875Megabytes

17Mb=2.125Megabytes
20bB=2.5Megabytes

Basically, there are eight bits in a byte

Or another way to look at it is, 10Mb line = 1200kbs down "max" 20Mb line = 2400Kbs down "max"

i've just today changed from sky broadband to virgin. Sky advertise a totally unlimited downloads policy. It isn't, i was being capped after about roughly 10 gb.

And i'm downloading WET.
