The Konig will do the job.

If everything else is working OK connect the amp just before the cable modem and off you go. I done this a couple of times at mates places.

bkuser, I'm just using standard coax. I did see and empty spindle in the shop with "satellite coax".

Should I be using satellite coax ? Or just stardard as I'm using now ?

If it's satellite coax I should be using, can I use this for my Pace box along with my modem in the other room ?

Again, thanks for the digout lads, you's do seem to know your stuff

Yeh mate that's probably where your fault is.

U need to use satellite Coax not standard aerial coax as that prob wont work.

And yeh the satellite coax u can use with ur pace box aswell as ur modem.

Well lads I thought my troubles were over today but just my luck they aint!

As planned I went to the satellite shop and the guy told me the cable I was using was pure crap and of low grade. He gave me some proper cable, 10 meters I think and he said that should do the job.
I got home and put connectors on the cable and first I tried it on my pace box and YES!! the stations came through So I'm thinking great. I then disconnected everything in the other room and connected the cable directly to the modem but once again no joy
Now with everything disconnected bar the modem I was getting further than usual, I was getting up to raning complete but I just still couldn't get online, the 'SEND' light was flashing and just wouldn't go solid.
I tried many MAC's and on some I would get just 'SCANNING' and on some I would get 'RANGING' and also 'RANGING COMPLETE'.

Now when I connected everything back up in my sitting room the furthest I would get is scanning.

Below are some screen shots, the last screen shot is with everything plugged in and I notice the signal seems to be down.

The satellite shop in quesion say's the sell the amplifiers but the guy thought the cable he gave me would do the job, but obviously not.

This has to be a signal problem right ? Please tell me that an amplifier will do the job ?

Well at least I have the footie for tonight, it's a start But I'm hoping I can get my modem sorted. I can't see how the modem is working fine in one room and literally 10 foot in another room it just won't work.

As ever lads

From those screenies that you have posted, there is most certainly a signal issue.

25dBmv is far too low, and your recieve power at -14.9 is at the very threshold of acceptability. Also, I think that your US power of 55 dBmv is the max that the modem will actually do (correct me if I'm wrong pls), so you are definitely needing the sig booster.

A lot of the time with these problems, you still normally get the TV service with no problems, as the signal requirements are of a lower standard for the TV transmission. You definitely need the amplifier, and I'd say that that will resolve your problem.

Thanks for that input

Also I think I spoke too soon in regards to my Pace box, well kind of. The Irish stations such as RT*1/TV* ect... are all working perfect but the UK stations such as BB* 1 + 2 and kinda pixelated.

I mentioned to the guy in the shop that I needed the specific Amplifer for the modem and he said he had some in stock. I don't know what make ect.. they are but I'll buy one tomorrow and hopefully that will do the job, fingers crossed anyway.

lads

Focus, DO NOT always listen to the guys in the shops.

He wants to sell his stuff. I can guarantee these ones work and they are recommended as so on ebay too. Unless he has the same one, I'd stick to the Konig as its tried and tested.

People in shops are sneaky mate. Especially if you ain't fully clued up they take advantage. I have experienced this manyt times in your smaller computer shops. One in particular annoyted me to the gills. An in-law relative was getting errors on his hard drive and he hasn't got a clue so he took it to the local computer shop and they told him that he needed a new hard drive and memory, when all he in fact needed was to run scan disk with auto error fixing enabled and that would have been it solved, but instead it ended up costing about a hundreds quid. I've gone in there and started to ask him a few questions, as I know my stuff in the field of computing, and he was givingt me bull**** answers. So my friend went to pay for the PC repair and I started to ask him why he had to put a new hard drive and memory and he gave more crap answers, and tried to tell my friend that the hard drive was fried, I told him that it wasn't and the reasons why he didn't need a new drive and he started to go red, and that he basically conned my mate. He went that red he ended up giving my mate the memory for free. When we took the PC home, I did indeed fix the errors on the hard drive and it has been problem free ever since.

Sorry for going off topic, just saying, beware these shop keepers!!

Point well taken mate.

Well on one hand I don't want to jump the gun and just buy anything but on the other hand I'm eager to get sorted out.
I wan't to get sorted out asap so I might buy one from the guy in shop in the moring and if no joy I'll bring it back and just order the one off fleabay.
It would be grand if the amplifier does the job as it's possible this could work for my mate too. He has a modem just sitting there as he just can't get it online either but in his estate I think most of the people are stealing cable from teh main feed so no wonder his signal is poor lol
I'll be over the moon if I get sorted and can get back to hittin 2mbs on torrents

I'll post back regardless tomorrow on how I get on. Hopefully it's good news though.
