the only other suggestion i can make is to tell your supplier that things keep messing up, with b/band?, and a friend has told you the incomming signal may be low. make sure you get rid of ur dodgy box. For me they went down the road into one of there green boxes and increased the signal strenght to the house, not sure how this will work with only havin b/band as i said the pic kept going funny on the ntl box.
If the box was working fine in last property and friends house, and your pluggin it directly into the main feed i would suggest its the signal coming to the house. Hope this helps alittle |

I will give that a try and see how it goes. I just called them and they said they will send a technician at my place tomorrow morning, so I will keep my fingers crossed till then.

Hmm not sure how old this post is, but i have experienced the same problem.
This has only just been happening lately. I have been nagged non stop to take a look at it so finally today i did. Tried a different splitter problem still there, disconnect one side of the splitter which goes off to the modem signal perfect no chirping no picture fault. Reconnect the cable from the modem problem is back again. There is either a fault with the cable coming into the house which i am unsure of as the internet is working fine. I certainly believe this is a weak signal. I have tried everything on my side. I do not wish to take their cable which is coming into the house apart so will call them and report the problem. Their set top box is working ok no problems but i am wondering if there is an amplifier built into their unit. We will see what happens and i will be back to report it here. Its better we all know about this so that the next person who gets this fault at least has some info on how to correct it.

Sometimes it matters how far apart the modem is from the cable box, its better I find if you have the longest run to the box and then split if from there to the modem ...any long runs after the splitter is bound to alter the signal strength and the cable boxes which are very sensitive are going to suffer ....
