Cool V+ Box Question

Hi All;
Very informative site with great information and great members knowledge, well done all.

I have a question on my Virgin V+ Box which i obtained from a friend of a friend It has an official Virgin smart card in the rear with the virgin logo on it. In the past few days it lost all extra channels and i had to give the card to a friend of a friend along with a large amount of cash...... The card came back it slid it in the slot and all is well again now...

I was wondering with my little technical knowledge what i would need to update the card by myself and cutting out the middle man ?
Obviously i need a card reader/writer to plug into my laptop and a few programs....

Would the cost of these outweigh the paying of the middle man every couple of months ?

Help appreciated as always.....

Well if your mate updated the card, it is probably already unlooped so there is no need for an unlooper, all you would need is a programmer capable of operating in 3.68MHz Phoenix Mode. Some good ones are the USB Phoenix, Elvis Multiprogrammer, Infinity USB Unlimited (tempermental with original cards) and also TMC (Tailor Made Circuits) has a serial Phoenix progammer which will do the job perfectly.

The cost of TMCs programmer is just £15 + postage. It is very easy to use and all you need is a serial port in your PC and a compatible power adapter. You will only need one program which is called Nagra Edit which will allow you to update the card as and when it "goes off" .

RE: Blakey_8's post you can get all the equipment from TMC ( tailor made circuits ) Very reasonable prices and comes plug and play ( unloopers already flashed etc ) . Many forum members use TMC as is a good supplier.
