Question Uk tv in spain

My brother has just rented an apartment in benidorm (private let) but some apartments are tourist aparments. (Evamar). The tourist apartment TVs are pay to view but get most UK channels and some movie channels. However my brother in the rented private apartmenr gets BBC1 ITV1 a very bad CNN and Sky Movies1 only. Now he just pluggs in TV and has no receiver. The owner is Spanish and cannot speak English and the tourist reception claim my brother is getting basic terestial channels. I know this cannot be right. I think just becasuse he is a private renta and not paying pay per view like tourist they are not being helpful. I know this is a difficult one but anyone have any ideas.

Ok could you write this out again please?

from what it sounds like your brother has moved to some place where using just his tv he gets BBC1 ITV and CNN? as basic terrestrial?

That sounds like a UHF broadcast system for the tourists

Hi, your right tunning the TV scans UHF frequencies but these were not available in his previous apartment. Obviously the other apartments are getting additional british channels so there must be some central satilite system as there are no receiver boxes in each apartment. Any idea how to tap into this? The BBC & ITV news tranmits North West England local bullitins. Thanks

I'd guess that the reception are saying that as they don't have him on the payment system they consider he will get only the (spanish) terrestrial channels, and that they know nothing about how the services are provided (so wouldn't have a clue why he can get BBC1 ITV and CNN).

I assume that he has plugged into an aerial socket in the wall, and has no digibox or TV with its own digital tuner.

Full or as near as full Sky TV channels are available in bar area and in rooms where u put 1 euro in coin slot. These are not new TVs with digital receivers and there is no digibox in rooms. Ive just got back and just by plugging areal in from wall to TV and tunning, UHF frequencies get BBC1, ITV1, Sky Movies 1, CNN plus 8 spanish channels. Have not been able to speak with the few uk expats that rent some apartments as they must only come over for holidays. Do you think the reception control some sort of distribution system. Still strange how you can get these selected channels.

I think that 'reception' probably just don't want to get involved in it. They probably don't control the distribution system - it has been set up some time ago, and they aren't sufficiently interested to wan to help.
The fact that more channels are available in places like the bar says that the system is there for distributing the stuff, and the owner might (with some effort) be able to get the additional channels (and pay for the privilege). As non-spanish speakers you would have a barrier to overcome - you'd have to get them interested and involved to get anything changed.

Good luck in your endeavours
