Default Freesat/Free to Air/Sky Freesat (Free to view)????

Ok am i right in saying that

Free to Air - is the basic channels available on any free to air receiver, there are less channels than sky or bbc/itv freesat?

Freesat - Service by the bbc and itv channels BBC HD and ITV HD only available on this service - not licenced to Sky Freesay?

Sky Freesat - available from a one off payment for a card to sky also know as free to view, Channel 4 HD is available on this service but not BBC or ITv hd?

FTA is un-encrypted and FTV is free but encrypted.

Freesat is FTA, ITV HD is available on most but not all FTA HD boxes as it uses a non-standard system. ITV HD can be received on Sky+HD boxes with the new firmware

Freesat from Sky is not HD, it includes a card for the FTV channels. You can use the card in some HD boxes and get 4 HD with it.

BBC HD is FTA and available on all HD boxes including un-subscribed Sky+HD boxes without paying a fee.

Think that covers it

So are freesat and free-to air the same? If so whats the difference between the receivers with the freesat logo on and receivers that are alot cheaper that dont have it on?

The Freesat receivers have a 8 day epg(electronic programme guide).
Whereas most of the FTA receivers only have now or next epg information,or none at all.
As this is down to the broadcasters.

Freesat receivers are also Plug 'n' Play like Sky boxes, they auto tune to the channels according to the entered postcode.

Fta receivers need to be manually scanned and the channels appear in a seemingly random order, so yo can put them in any order that you want yourself.

There are NOT more channels available on a Freesat receiver than there are on a FTA one

Like, which ones?, I have never heard of that, and there's no reason why any FTA receiver shouldn't be able to get ch5, it's just a normal FTA channel.

It used to be the case, because a ch5 is encrypted by Sky, but now since not too long a while after Freesat started, a FTA version of channel 5 was provided.

It could be that the receivers are tuned into the encrypted Five rather than the FTA five- the FTA five is available on any DVB compliant receiver

Think this sums it up?

Free To Air (FTA) satellite

You can receive the programmes with a digital satellite receiver and universal LNB.You don't need a viewing card or Conditional Access Module (CAM). For the Free To air (FTA ) programmes broadcast from the satellites at 28.2 degrees East of south Any Digital satellite receiver. All BBC and ITV programmes are FTA. Viewing is free and un-encrypted.
FreeSat

The BBC and ITV launched a free-to-view digital TV service transmitted by satellite in spring 2008. It is encrypted and you will need a "freesat" receiver to watch these channels. It can be viewed by any satellite receiver with a Freesat logo, Freesat is all the same channels as Free-to-Air but unlike FTA receivers you get an 8 day EPG

Free To View (FTV) satellite or Freesat (fromSky).

As FTA but, in the case of Free To View (FTV) programmes broadcast from the satellites at 28.2 degrees East of south, you will need a Sky Digibox and suitable viewing card to watch SKY3 and a few other programmes in addition to the FTA channels.( FTV cards are available direct from Sky) You will be able to watch these programmes with any Sky Digibox.
