Hi all..
A complete newbie to all these satellite technology.. So please bear with me.. I was looking at getting digital tv at my new house in Boston Lincs. There is no dish at this property. I am also buying a tv with built in Freesat. I am mainly looking at English and as many Indian channels as possible. Would I be better off getting Sky or would one of these satellite receivers do the trick? If so, what are the options available? What all equipments would I need? And how much is it going to cost me? Also, what is the cheapest way of getting the other paid Indian channels? I read about 'patching' the box somewhere.. Would that help in anyway? Sorry if I sound dumb as my knowldge in this area is very limited. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All suggetions welcome.. Many Thanks! |

The best satellite for the FTA Asian(Indian) channels is Astra 2 @ 28E.
Are you wanting Hindi channels? Then stick to Astra 2. If however, you are are wanting non Hindi channels e.g in Tamil, then other satellites e,g Hotbird and Eurobird 9 are a possibility, but there are very few that are FTA. IMO,the Freesat system is far from easy,if you are a International channel viewer. A Sky digibox is far easier for watching Asian channels,as all the channels are grouped together, you have 14day listings Last edited by SAT-WORLD; 12-05-09 at 09:37 AM. |

Thanks for your reply..
If I get Sky, would I get all the FTA Indian channels on Astra 2 @ 28E? I am looking for Hindi and Malayalam channels mainly. To get all the FTA Indian channels listed on the FlySat page, what would I need to do? Also, would I be able to get the normal Freeview channels as well? Thanks a lot! |

You can get all the FTA channels without subscribing to Sky, all you require is a digital satellite receiver and a dish pointing at 28.2E.
I can't spot a lot of Indian FTA channels on 28.2E, perhaps you can post the link, or more details of the channels you are interested in receiving, so that we can check them out. |

If you get Sky,whether you decide to subscribe or get FreesatfromSky or Pay Once Watch Forever,or Freesat,or a FTA receiver.
All the following FTA Asian channels will be available: B4U Music Sony TV Asia PCNE Chinese Bangla TV mta – muslim tv Zee Muzic PTV Prime MATV National Abu Dhabi TV DM Digital Hidayat Tv Venus TV ARY Oneworld Aastha TV PTV Global Islam Channel Channel ‘S’ Noor TV Peace TV Music India Al Jazeera Children Channel S NTV/IqraTv ATN 9X 9XM Sunrise TV NDTV Imagine Glory TV Brit Asia TV NTV KBC AT Punjabbi Tv Sikh Channel Some of the subscription channels have daily free to view periods e.g B4U Movies,Sony Max Mix channels etc Freeview is only available via a tv aerial. Do you mean other FTA channels. List of FTA channels:http://www.wildsat.com/freetoair.doc Obviously,if you subscribe, you will get far more channels depending on the mix. There are no Malayalam channels on Astra 2. Hotbird and Eurobird 9 have Malayalam channels e.g Amrita Tv,Kairali Tv,Asianet. All are subscription channels. Thanks for your reply.
Would I be able to combine Astra 2, Hotbird and Euro 9? I mean, is there a way of getting all these at the same time? Also, if you look on the FlySat site (sorry I am not able to post links as my post count is below 10), there is a list of FTA Indian channels. What is the best possible way of getting all these? w w w . flysat.com / tv-in . php Sorry if I sound really dumb... I am very bad at these things. |

If not all the channels, may be the ones beamed on satellites E.Bird 9A, HotBird8 (not very important), Eurobird 1, Astra 2A from the above FlySat page would be fine with me. Thanks a lot!

Get a motorized dish set up and you have the option of viewing any of the FTA channels, on all the available satellites.
