Default Ambit 256 Cable Modem

hi

Have just joined this forum so my apologies if this topic has already being covered (if it is please point me in the right direction). I recently bought a ambit 256 flashed modem with latest haxorware 1.1 Rev.31. Attached it to my PC via ethernet cable and powered it up ( I did not attach the isp cable). When I attempted to get to the modems webpage by typing in the appropriate http I got the message that the webpage could not be found. Used 3 different browsers (Explorer/Firefox/Chrome) all with this result. Also disabled my firewalls.

Is there anything fundamentally that I have being doing wrong? Do I need to change my browser settings? Or is the reason I cannot get to the modems webpage simply the fact that the modem is nackered. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi

The MAC I am using is from a friend who lives in a different area to me. His PC is set up to communicate with his modem via a wireless router. To check his MAC address I entered the ipconfig/all command and this returned 3 MAC (Physical) addresses.

1. Wireless Network Connection MAC.
2. Ethernet Adapter Bluetooth Network Connection MAC.
3. Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection MAC.

I used option(1) as my MAC address. Is this the correct option to use?

Thanks

You need a mac from the VM network, not a wireless router..

Does that mean I would need to directly connect his modem to his PC and then check his MAC address?

You can access his modem from his house by going to 192.168.100.1 from his pc.

This will give you the virmin firmware page for the modem, login with the default credentials (usually root, root) and look for the info page down the left hand side.

The mac address, down & up speed, etc will be shown there.

That is the mac address you would need to use on your 256, its a HFC mac. (Hybrid Fibre Coax Mac Address)

You will also need to speed your eth + usb mac on the modem too, eg:

HFC mac: 11:22:33:44:55:66
eth mac: 11:22:33:44:55:6C (+6 of the hfc)
usb mac: 11:22:33:44:55:65 (-1 of the hfc)

Remember, hex works 1-9 a-f (15 in total)

a = 10, b =11, etc..

Thanks for that information. Before I enter 192.168.100.1 do I need to disconnect his cable feed from his modem or does it not make any difference?

You are welcome mate, hit the thanks button

You can and would be better to leave the feed connected, it shouldn't matter either way, but some info you might want to copy down, won't show while disconnected
