right peeps i seriously need help and please bare with me as im a complete beginner (idiot) when it comes to networking
starters ive got a linksys wrt54g (stadard firmware ver 2.0) router and a 4mb blueyonder internet connection im trying (failing) misrable to set up a home network just so my partner and my daughter can use the printer connected to my pc with out touching (breaking) my pc ok so it goes i have my broadband plugged into the router and a feed from port 1 on the back of the router to my pc. my daugters pc has a wireless network card installed and my partner has a centrino laptop both of which are accessing the web wirelessly without any troubles at all (my pc is also connected to the web obviously or i would'nt be typing this) i have tried windows network set up and wireless network set up tp no avail so im calling on all you smaty pants who arn't a thicko like me to help me make it all talk to each other. the router i have is fairly common so im sure a good few have crossed this bridge before all i want to do is be able to share a printer and send files to their pc's if possible note im running kerio personal firewall and win xp pro sp2 all help is greatly appreciated as im in limbo here thanks for reading this and i eagerly await your replys |

On main PC, go into printers on control panel and right click on the printer and make sure it's setup for sharing and you've installed the extra drivers. On all PC's run network wizzard and make sure they are all connected to the same workgroup and make sure all firewalls trust the local network ( I usually set them to trust the range 192.168.*.*).
If that doesn't work, you may need to install the NWLink IPX compatible transport protocol from control panel network connections, right click on your network connection and select properties, click install and protocols then add and select the NWLink IPX compatible protocol on all PC's If it still doesn't work, I'll have to scratch my head some more ![]() |
