Default V+ box works at friends house but not mine

Hey guys,

Bought a modded V+ box and when firing it up at my mates, it all worked fine

- BOX STARTS
- BOOTS
- AP:1 - 53 LOADS
- TV SCREEN HAS VIRGIN MEDIA LOGO
- CHANNEL NUMBER DISPLAYS ON BOX
- "LIVE TV" SHOWS UP ON BOX LED
- BOOM ALL IS WORKING

So i came home and took the white cable out of my cable modem and plugged it into the v+ box and everything happens up until "Channel Number Displays".

The channel number shows up for about 3 seconds and then the LED displays the current time in 24h format.

Nothing happens after this. I don't see the little "Live TV" icon show up.

Any idea, what could be going on please?

Thanks

How far away is your friends house , is a possibility that you are in a different area ? has the box ever worked at your house or is this the first time you have tried it at yours ?

You're gonna laugh at me.

Once the box switches to the 24HR time, the box is in Standby mode.

All I had to do was power it back ON via the remote and everything worked perfectly.

Thanks for the replies guys.

So can anyone offer me any sneaky tips please?

My mate said that his channels rarely go off. In fact the last time that happened, it was over 8 months ago and all he did was unplug/screw the cable for 30 seconds, plugged back in and all was fine again. Just got a few ??'s:

Why do the channels go off?
What happens during the 30-second shutdown?
Can Virgin Media ever be catch me using a modded box?
Does the card ever need to be replaced?

Thanks,

The rebooting of the box will most likely be updating the keys. No, VM can not catch you using a modded box as long as you remember to cut talkback (if it's an original box such as a Pace or Samsung). Any other box will be fine, no the card shouldn't ever need replacing, just updating .

Blakey,

What did you mean when you said "remember to cut talkback".

The box I have is the one shown here:

Lastly, you said, the card will never need replacing, just updating. When you say updating, do you mean the automated process that takes place during the 30-sec shutdown or do you mean, I have to pull the card and update it manually via a programmer device?

Thanks mate.
