Default 200 Meg??? OMFG!!!!!

Virgin Media on Wednesday began an Ashford, UK trial of what it says is the fastest cable-based Internet service on Earth. Using a high-end implementation of the DOCSIS 3 cable modem standard, the carrier says it's offering 200Mbps downloads to 100 testers; the speed is faster than 160Mbps Japanese service and twice as fast as the 101Mbps Optimum Online service in the US. The bandwidth is said sustainably high enough that Virgin is testing streaming 3D and HD video online.
Tests are expected to last 6 months and are being used both to verify service quality as well as to test Virgin's options for what else it can do with the much faster Internet access. It's not specified how soon regular Virgin customers would have access to the 200Mbps tier if the trial proves successful.
DOCSIS 3 achieves the higher speeds primarily by bonding cable channels together, multiplying the theoretical bandwidth in both directions. It often requires conceding regular TV channels but is also an inexpensive upgrade for most providers.

That's your right to have an opinion mate.

I for one could easily make use of a 200 meg connection, as I am sure quite a few others on here could. At the end of the day nobody likes to wait do they? As far as I am concerned, when I start to download something, the quicker it finishes the better.

Also with the increased speed comes lots more possibilities for new services that we haven't even dreamt of yet.

20 meg may be fine for one user, but when you have a family of five, with a laptop each, xbox 360 etc etc the downspeed is soon decimated. For example, 5 people sharing a 20 meg connection would be getting 4 meg each, and all the associated lag that comes with that type of usage. Have a 200 meg connection, you now have 40 meg each. The benefits will be huge. You will be able to truly multitask with your connection. Have you ever tried making a VOIP call whilst uTorrent is going full blast? If you have, you will know that you need to stop uTorrent or the call breaks up.

HD Content is a killer when you are waiting to download it with some titles being 20 gigabytes a piece, this speed definitely comes in handy. Standard definition is going out the window and HD is coming in big time.

If you can do without 200 meg, then that's fine for your situation, but for me BRING IT ON!!!

If and when this does happen, networking hardware will certainly need to be updated as a lot of people are still using 10/100 ethernet as opposed to the faster gigabit cards.

All sorts running in my home using a 10meg(I think its 10) subbed modem, 2x laptops , 2x desktops + PS3 & it all runs fine. You would need plenty of devices running to make use of 200meg,lol,anyway theres my useless post over.

good morning all btw

I bet that wont be available to everyone for years. We're still WAY behind everyone else..
''
Virgin Media made a huge event out of the launch of their 50Mb fixed-line broadband service, residents of Bournemouth fought their way to become one of the first to get connected up to the newly-launched 100Mb fibre optic trial but once again, Korea seems to be making a mockery of the UK's plans to establish a super-fast broadband network across the country as it gears up for a 1Gb service.
Hoping to have it established by 2012, the Korean Communications Commission has announced a strategy to give its IT infrastructure a boost to the tune of US $24.6 billion. So ambitious are the drafts for this improved broadband network, it has been estimated a total of 120,000 jobs will have to be created in order to complete the work. This will be just in time to make a mockery of the UK government's 'Digital Britain' goal of getting everyone up and running with a rather pedestrian 2Mb line before the Olympics.''

Well said, I entirely agree.
