If you find both, you can splice the two cables together, provided you dont mind using junction boxes and electrical tape!

You can certainly do it, I did the same thing a few years ago, it worked ok, but had to use powerstrip to get the refresh rate suitable for the display monitor. I just soldered a scart end onto a vga extension cable.......
These days I don't bother...... hdmi straight out the pc, straight into the tv, much better quality and much easier. No need to try and match refresh rates with powerstrip which could sometimes be lucky guesswork at best. This was on a crt tv. |

would it be doable using powerstrip to connect say a dvd player or a cable box to your pc and use the pc as the monitor?
I was also thinking of using a VGA switch box so i dont have to keep switchin cables etc Thanks in advance |

Not really, powerstrip would be for converting a pc graphics card signal into a tv signal. The best way to output a dvd onto a pc monitor is to use the pc's internal dvd drive, it will be better picture quality. To connect a cable box I think you would be better off using an old analogue pci tv tuner card. Although I'm not sure this would give you the same picture quality as just using a dvb-c card in the pc.
Sorry not many good alternatives that I can think of that way round. I'm not sure if you just want to use the pc monitor as a tv screen or whether you want to run it as a pc as well? But generally pc monitors are better at being a pc monitor than a tv and tv's are better at being tv's than pc monitors. A better alternative might be to get a cheapish lcd tv that can display the pc natively via hdmi. Although it wont output the pc text as clearly as a pc monitor but will be much better for tv. Sorry, not sure that the info helps you much. |

Thanks for the help guys, after a bit more searching I managed to find out that I can convert the signal using a vga converter.. which Im going to do most likely! Though I did end up ordering a DVB-C anyway from Hisat. So expect some posts of me screwing up the settings lol
Thanks again guys |
