Im currently using a ambit 255 modem flashed with haxorware 1.0rc3 & will be gettig it flashed with the latest haxorware 1.1 Rev 31..
I live in an ex c&w area & im hoping to get back online again using G77s fix he put up in his thread.. Ive seen a motorola surfboard sb5101e flashed with the latest haxorware 1.1 Rev 31 for sale on the bay & was enquiring if its worth swaping from my ambit 255 to a surfboard as are they really BETTER modems & are the more FUTURE proof than the ambits??.. If so why are they better modems??.. Also does the surfboard SB5101e work in ex c&w areas??.. As the listing on the bay it says.. The SB5xxx series of modem are NOT the same as the SB4xxx series, these are a newer model of the SB4xxx series but they are DOCSIS 2.0 compliant, The SB4xxx series are only DOCSIS 1.1 compliant and the system is due to be upgraded to DOCSIS 2.0 in the very near future... So is it worth having a surfboard instead of an ambit??.. Cheers..

Correct as the ad states the sb4xxx are different to the sb5xxx , Recently the sb3xxx and most sb4xxx won't lock on to my regional area ( Bristol ) and even the sb5100 without Sigma X2v15 BPI HACK installed tend to be a bit hit or miss , most of us down south are only staying online stable with haxorware weather it be ambits or sb5101e's but anything running haxorware seems to be the way to go , but for how long it lasts , who's to say.

they are better modems yet, but not that much better. arn't ambit 250's also docsis 2 compliant? i think they are.
how much is he chatting for one? about £40 no doubt. all surfboards can be used in c+w. its just a case of setting the annex and tuner type correctly.

As I always say, ANYTHING with JTAG capabilities is better than the Ambit. Theres no real difference in real world performance but the fact that the Ambit 250 is a very big pain in the arse if it's firmware gets fubar'd makes it less favourable.
