What have you managed to achieve speed wise so far mate?

I'm really interested in upload rather than download.

5mbit upload? Now that is gangster!

If only VM would release a package with decent upload. Even on the 50 package the upload speed is still **** poor. Its all very good having 50meg down, but then when you want to upload some family videos or what not, you're still stuck in the dark ages!

I'm at Work so can't get a pic . but my speed test from memory varies depending on server you test against .

Web test ..

Download - 18.40 mb/s

Upload - 2.86 mb/s

When downloading via Newsgroups using lewsleecher - my speed is in the region of 3.28 mps .

Have you lot any idea how much problem running excessive upload causes for other subscribers in your area ?

Stretching the download a bit is fine but stressing the limited upload bandwidth is something you should be staying away from.

The reason that VM limit it in the way that it is limited is because its a very finite resource. The present cable network was not designed for large upload capability (basically, it was designed to allow people to order movies etc via the stb rather than for broadband)

By taking large amount of upload your simply claiming excessive amounts of dataslots and degrading everbody elses service.

oh, btw, using non-standard configs, even self served, makes you stick out like a sore thumb on the network. Stick with standard clones - you'll be far better off in the long run.

Who cares? If you don't like the way we do it here, the don't come here. Cable modem modding no matter how you do it is going to "degrade" the service for others whichever way you look at it.

So going by your methods, just pay for the service, and don't use modded modems eh?

And the "present" cable network is obviously designed to serve internet, why else would they have installed fibre? The network is capable of far more than is advertised. They make it that way so they can time-release speed "upgrades" and sell them to you at a price, thats what it's all about.

Think hes got a point, There wasnt any new routers at vm untill 50mb came along and people decided they wanted 5 modems all at 50mb and even then possably modify config file for higher upload speeds. People take the **** too much like thinking 'ill settle for 20mb then' thats still the highest tier in most places!
personally i think 10mb is fine for downloading/gaming etc.

the point here is we are discussing a hypothetical subject. this thread, and indeed most of the forum is to discuss these things, not actually do them.

whats broadband anyway?
