Hi,
I have been successful in changing the MACS to these modems using an application called FactoryMode (5100 and 5101E) but unable to change the firmware or configs. I own a Jtag cable but just noticed that my mobo does not have a parallel port. (LOL!!) I have done bitfiles, netboot, CMFirm3 with tftpd32 on 4100 and 4200 before, but not sure if I can use that method with 5100 and 5101E's. going though what seems dated guides and tutorials, I am wondering is there any simple options in flashing these modems? Thanks. |

The modem does not have a parallel port, it has a JTAG port.
You need to look inside the modem for this connection, it will be in the form of a pin header. You may or may not need to solder your own pin header into the modem. |

The reason being is that you will probaly find it is not a parrallel connector on your jtag it is a serial connector, and more than likely you will not find the same size connector on your mobo as the connector on your jtag will be a 25 pin serial and your mobo will be a 9 pin serial. But dont worry you can buy a 25 way to 9 way serial convertor which should help

This is what I did for my PC, since as you said, I too, didn't have a parallel or serial port, in need of both, I googled about, and baught a twin serial card for £6! There were a few serial/parallel combo cards for £15, but I didn't need the parallel interface in the end, modem never got bricked!
