A little birdy told me that it is possible to use an Ambit 250/255 on original firmware. Is this true? If so, how can it be done?

I have decided to go down the Haxorware route as the original firmware option seems to complicated for me. I might try it once I get a bit more experience with modems. If I flash the latest Haxorware (the one with the security fix) to my modem, will it keep the P option so I don't have to mess with Console Unlocker and SoftJTag in the future?

just flash hax rev31 and follow my autoserving guide and i'll send you a config. yopu will get it working. trust me.

once hax is on, you can simply upload the bootloader of your choice and it will boot with p next time.

simples.
