Default Doing my head in!

Well Im not stupid with PC's, concidering Im A+, N+, MCSA and MCSE qualified but this is doing my bloody head in and cant solve it.

When ever I try to download a file the link shows, the screen pops up and I click save but the box disappears off the screen regardless of what Im trying to save.

I dont have any software on this system that could be causing this problem and the only other solution is a format and start again.

System is Windows XP pro.

Any ideas?

All I can suggest with my wealth of inexperience is to ditch MSIE and use Firefox

Things disapearing off the screen sounds like a browser hijack to me, does it happen with every file you try to download? have you tried the usual spyware/adware cleanups?.........Ad-Aware, spybot, ewido anti malware, spy sweeper....but to name a few, maybe download Hijackthis and have a look at a scan log?

I'm with bob on this one, sounds like some form of malware at work.

Things dont disapper off the desktop but the popup dox that says save or open that goes when I click save or open.

I have installed Firefox and that works ok, so its a IE problem.

When did it occur? If it was recent I usually just restore to a couple of days before the problem started and see if that cures it. Only works though if youve got system restore activated.
